European Innovation Ecosystems

The European Innovation Ecosystems (EIE) work programme aims to create more connected, inclusive and efficient innovation ecosystems that support the scaling of companies and spur innovation to address important challenges in a responsible way.

Regional and national innovation actors are connected. This programme contains actions under three destinations:

  1. CONNECT – Interconnected Innovation Ecosystems - focuses on building interconnected, inclusive innovation ecosystems across Europe. It does so by making use of already established national, regional and local ecosystems, while simultaneously involving underrepresented stakeholders and regions. By bringing together innovation actors, this destination contributes to tackling important societal challenges and fostering the EU’s green and digital transition.
  2. SCALEUP – Elevating the scalability potential of European business - aims at strengthening and expanding cooperation between innovation players to better support the next generation of innovative companies. The actions taken will help innovation ecosystems to support companies to better sustain their growth and gain new competitive advantage.
  3. INNOVSMES – Partnership on Innovative SMEs - envisages cooperation among European and/or international partners, with at least one innovative SME as the project leader, thus helping innovative SMEs to increase their research & innovation (R&I) capacity and productivity. In addition, it contains a number of other actions supporting the EIE policy and programme goals, including support for the European IP Helpdesk and the new EIC Forum.
